PRESSS RELEASE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA It has been brought to the attention of the National Disaster Management Agency ( NDMA ), that certain unscrupulous individuals are publishing, misleading and in some cases unfounded information relating to the COVID19 virus. The Agency wishes to inform the general public to desist from such acts as it contravenes Section. 125 of the NDMA Act of 2008 , which states: “A person who, without lawful authority, makes or circulates a false alarm or warning as to a threatening disaster situation or disaster or its severity or magnitude, leading to panic, commits an offence and is liable on conviction, to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand dalasis or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or to both the fine and imprisonment”.  The Agency wishes to encourage Gambians and none Gambians alike to contact the Ministry of Health if they have concerns/information in relation to the virus, or listen to the Media houses task

GAMBIA DECIDES ON TRAVEL TO & FROM COVID-19 HOTSPOT COUNTRIES

              STATE HOUSE OF THE GAMBIA Gambia decides on travel to and from  COVID-19 hotspot countries State House, Banjul, 20th March 2020 – President Adama Barrow has been updated on the outcome of the Ministerial Committee Meeting on the travel arrangements to and from hotspot countries.   It is in this light that the Office of the President informs the general public, all embassies and airlines that COVID-19 hotspot countries wishing to evacuate their citizens may do so within 48 hours and this will be subject to review as the situation demands. Furthermore, all Gambians abroad wishing to return to The Gambia from the hotspot countries are hereby informed that they will undergo mandatory quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in approved facilities.                            STATE HOUSE OF THE GAMBIA Gambia closes airspace and land borders Following consultations and an update from the Ministerial Committee on the Coronovirus, His Excellency, President Adama Barrow has approved the closure of the border between the Republic of The Gambia and the Republic of Senegal, effective midnight, on Monday, 23rd March 2020. The decision of the closure of the border was taken considering the rapid spread of COVID -19 in the world and in our region, and the continuous movement of people posing high risk of contracting the disease.   The Government of the Republic of The Gambia and the Republic of Senegal have mutually agreed to close their border for a period of 21 days in the bid to contain the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
